Halloween has the most discarded plots in the history of horror series

H1 was going to end with Micheal Myers officially dead after taking 5-6 bullets and falling off that balcony
H2 was going to be the official ending to the series and was going to be sequel-proof
H3 had nothing to do with Micheal Myers and future sequels were going to be contemporary as well
H4 had an ending that was abandoned since Friday The 13th, Part 5 did the same exact thing
H5 had a cliffhanger that took 6 years to resolve and the Myers house was a mansion instead of a house (WTF!?)
H6 ended with Loomis either dying or being cursed and was later written out of canon with H20
H20 tried to reboot the series and ignore H4-6 and have yet another sequel-proof ending
HR discarded the ending to H20 and was left open for another sequel, which we never got
RZH1 was a reboot, in which Rob Zombie gave us a crappy trailer trash version of the original
RZH2 ignored some of the continuity from RZH1 like the mother's suicide and both endings were just awful

I heard that Halloween Returns will now ignore both the H4-6 and H20-R timelines and pick up 18 years after, setting it in 1996, one year after H6, had it followed that timeline.

All horror movies have discarded plots. Every single Wishmaster had a whole different cast. Most of the Fridays were vaguely connected then dropped. Nightmare was consistent, but they ran it into the ground.

Way I see it Halloween, Halloween II, H20 and Resurrection connected. That's okay.
Halloween 4-6 connected, that's okay too.

So it's really not as disjointed or as complicated as you make it.

"He came home." - Dr. Sam Loomis from the original HalloweeN

The first movie never had him die, that's why his body is gone when they look. Resurrection was total BS for the paramedic *beep*

The first film actually did have him die in case Halloween wasn't a success, but since it was, they open the second film and recap the last 5 minutes except Micheal actually disappears, this wasn't at the end of the first film making it look like Micheal died like a normal human being. The whole "disappearance" wasn't added until the second film. Correct me if I'm wrong.

No, the ending of Halloween has ALWAYS featured Michael being gone when Loomis looks down from the balcony. John Carpenter himself says that it was filmed that way and that he had Pleasance do two different takes before deciding which one to go with. No version of the film has EVER featured Michael dying. The only thing changed about Halloween when Halloween II was made is that three new scenes were shot for NBC before they would air the first film on TV because the run time was two minutes short. Carpenter hates the scenes, but he shot them anyhow just for the TV airing. So nothing was really changed, just a few minutes of footage that add nothing to the film.

I am not a fan. I just happen to enjoy movies. Fans are embarrassing.

Must have not paid attention to the last 5 seconds of the film.

Seriously? Go watch the movie. Everyone else here has seen it many, many times. Loomis shoots Michael, he falls off the balcony. Laurie asks if that was the boogey man, and loomis says yes. He then goes down to find Michael is gone. That's the end of the first movie.

In the new one, coming out this October, he was put into custody for like 40 years, hence he never disappeared from the spot where he landed, thus making H2 non-canon in this new timeline.

reply

No, he got up and was captured at some point.

His being captured at the beginning of the new Halloween doesn't require retconning the end of the first Halloween.

"H4 had an ending that was abandoned since Friday The 13th, Part 5 did the same exact thing"

I've never heard this. He was going to turn out to not be Michael?

reply

I thought the original plan for H4 was for Jamie to take over Michael's curse and be the killer. MM was supposed to be truly dead after getting shot a million times and being buried in the mine shaft.

The plot lines were dropped because they were all equally disposable. Lame, trite and shallow with little motivation but to keep milking the cash cow.
