Are they still married and what happened to the kid?

This is a true story right so does anyone know what happened to him. Are the two still married and what happened to the child?

I gotta tell you guys.. they weren't blood cousins.

Okay, as icky as it sounds to some, marrying one's second cousin isn't going to cause inbreeding. In fact, many countries today still allow first cousins to marry. Doing so will not always cause a baby to be born with two heads or missing limbs. Rather it strengthens the chance of genetic imperfections to reveal themselves if each cousin carries specific genes that can cause problems in his or her children, which doubles when a cousin marries another cousin.

That said, the grossest part would be how young his wife was when she married.

"Cousins marrying cousins is A LOT less sick than whites and blacks marrying and having biracial kids who will be taunted and made outcasts because of their biracial status"

that could be one of the most racist things i have ever heard, who makes fun of people for being biracial??
who makes kids outcasts??
i am still in school, going into grade 12, and in my 11 years of school, no one has been made into an outcast, no one makes fun of each other for there colour, or multiple colours

where did that statement come from???

reply

The statement, I believe, comes from the scripture, and I'm paraphrasing here, "Do not mix the light with the dark." It has been modified to be about white-Light, intermarrying black-Dark. The most extreme problem most people have with this practice, at least people I know, is the EXTREME difference in color. I don't know.

Actually it means do not mix enlightenment (spirituality) with spiritually staying in the dark (unknown or not enlightenened).

"White" folks need to stop....plus how would that have made any sense to mean about "race" when there was no such thing as race in the biblical days. Everything was based on where you were from. Also, as the figures in the bible were from Africa........

I have heard or read that throughout most of human history (not the written history which comprises less than 1% of the time span of the human race, but rather the biological history) humankind lived in tribes that were small by our standards. Due to this; throughout the million or so years that humans have been around the normal, repeat normal, relationship for human beings at marriage has been second cousin. In fact, I do not believe this (marriage between second cousins) is illegal in any state or country; at least any that I am aware of. Marriage or sexual relations between brother and sister is taboo in any society. First cousin marriages have been allowed at times, though at other times not. But, second cousin marriages have always been allowed; so far as I am aware (may not be saying much I grant you still one can research this subject nowadays on the internet much easier than could be done in years past). Jerry Lee Lewis did NOT marry his first cousin; unless you wish to state that Jerry Lee Lewis married Myra Lee's father ?????? (Well, maybe in San Francisco he could have). He (Jerry Lee) married the daughter of his first cousin. IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE!!

how did there son die ? thats really sad

Steve Allen Lewis drowned in the family pool in about 1962. He couldn't have been more than 3 or 4 years old at the time. Jerry and Myra then had a daughter and named her Phoebe (rhymes with Stevie, which is what they called their son). She is still alive and recently sat next to her father at the 2005 Grammys when he was awarded their Lifetime Achievement Award.

was no one watching steve at the time he drowned ? thats really sad.how old is their daughter now ? i bet they never got over what happened to steve.
do myra and jerry still have any contact at all ? i thought they might have with being family.it must have felt quite strange for them to see each other after they got divorced .why did they get divorced ?

Jerry Lee was on tour at the time Stevie drown and returned home immediately for the funeral. I believe Myra was home with Stevie at the time. He was only three years old. The grief and guilt must have been unbearable for such a young mother (she was about 18 at the time of the drowning in 1962).

Their daughter Phoebe was born in 1963, so she would 42 today. Myra left Jerry Lee in the late '60s/early '70s after years of neglect. He had become popular on the charts again (the country charts this time) and was away from home more and more. Basically, he wanted to raise hell and she wanted him to be a husband.

I don't know if they're still in contact with one another. Possibly they saw one another in 1989 (when "GBOF!" premiered), but the last picture I saw of them together was at Phoebe's high school (possibly college) graduation in the 1980's. They stood amicably on either side of their daughter, smiling and obviously very proud & happy.

I found an old picture on the internet from a year after they were married
