beginining of the end of Quaid's acting career?

he was so horrible in this and has never seemed to improve

I don't think he was horrible in this and I there doesn't seem to be a noticeable change in his career after ~1990. Did you see him a bigger star before that? Can you give some examples? He's kept busy with many movies to his credit.

Dennis Quaid has always been a very good actor. His performance in Great Balls of Fire! is definitely the best work of his career.

Are you insane? Quaid did an awesome portrayal of Jerry Lee... his acting and the editing was spot on IMO

*edit* just a for the hell of it.... Jerry Lee Lewis' Great Balls of Fire was hit the year I was born 57... rock n roll is in my blood thanks to my parents for making me at a cool time ha I will for ever be a rock/metal/roller haha

Totally agree with the OP -- this was a bizarre, mannered performance and I have no idea why the director didn't rein Quaid in. He seems like he's seriously coked up the whole way through.
