For those disappointed with the movie, try the book. It is exceptionally better and you won't be disappointed.

No question about it. The book is serious stuff. With echoes of Greek Tragedy.

But don't worry, it still has sex.

I totally agree! I've read the book several times and it it much better than the film, though I don't think the film was that bad! Some parts of the film was shot in Copenhagen, were I live, that was somewhat fun to watch. Greek Tragedy?.....yeah I can see your point, not exactly a happy ending!

I totally DISAGREE; the book was just annoying and pretentious and the film was sooooooooooooo beautiful- I relly think that, i just don't get you people who always criticise this wonderful movie!!!!!

reply

It's not that we're criticizing the movie... it's just that the book came first, and thus is the last word in how the story should be told. Plus, for those of us who read the book first, it's disappointing when a movie adaptation doesn't do the story justice. It happens time and time again, and this movie is a prime example. Don't take it so personally!

Richard Adams is one of my favorite authors. Reading his stories (Watership Down, Maia [which I'd love for them to make into a movie], etc..) are like being woven into a tapestry. His storytelling style is very lush and descriptive. It's hard to squash all of that great story into a movie screenplay.

 ^^^^^ I agree. Even a really, really long movie has to take a lot out of the book its made from. Gone with the Wind is three hours long, but they still had to completely eliminate two of Scarlett's three children! (Rather like......    )
