imdb helped me find "Don't Go to Sleep" and others i have been searching for, so maybe i can find this one as well.

all i can remember is there is a woman who keeps receiving phone calls from a man in a whispery voice. he finally catches up with her and i think takes her to a field and cuts her hair. i think the woman has dark hair and there is a staircase in the house where she is at. i saw the movie in the early to mid 80's. any help would be greatly appreciated. much thanx. sorry i don't have anymore to go on

BTW, "When a Stranger Calls" is not the movie i am looking for, i already own it.

There are two versions of When A Stranger Calls - part of this sounds like a Veronica Mars episode - so maybe they borrowed from whatever movie you are thinking - I dunno - maybe investigating that episode might help.
