Was Viggo stronger than Gozer?

I think Viggo in a way was more powetful than Gozer.

Staypuff was damanged and knocked back by the proton beams very easily.

Also Viggo easily deflected the beams away from himself at the final battle.
He also rendered the entire team completly paralysed.
Remember he was not at his full level of power.

The four ghostbusters managed to close Gozer's dimensional portal, without any resistence.

I understand that they crossed the streams, but the portal in my opinion still closed to qucickly.

And yes Viggo is weakend by people singing! I found that pretty funny!

But he was a mere spirit and not yet merged with Oscar.

Who would win in a battle Gozer or Viggo- As he would be if he fused himself with Oscar?

Viggo was a ghost, but Gozer was a god.

Vigo may have started out as a Class 4 ghost; but with his wisdom and practice of the occult, and all of the negative energy he was drawing, he was transcending to Class 7 godhood like Gozer. I think Vigo was much more practical than Gozer.

Looking at both films, I think he was.

Vigo wasn't a true God like Gozer, but he was a stronger match for the Ghostbusters, unless Gozer showed very little of his/her powers in the first movie. He/She managed to knock them down with those electricity bolts, and Gozer turns into the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man, but it killed quite brutally when he/she is blasted with the proton packs and the gateway explodes.

Vigo was only hurt by the proton pack shots. Gozer probably would've died from the fire eventually, even if the gateway wasn't destroyed. He also stunned them and they weren't able to get up until the power of goodness weakened him.

I think Gozer wasn't so much destroyed but blasted back into it's dimension. It was probably half in and half out. So they faced a handicapped Gozer.

And of course just because something says it's a god doesn't mean it is. Gozer really could have been just a glorified ghost who had some poetic followers.

Gods are often conceived as Supreme Beings and objects of faith. So I would say Gozer was.

I'm not so sure. Do you remember what Egon said about what would occur if they crossed the streams? I've considered that what he said actually did happen-- in Gozer's dimension. The blowback was so powerful that some of it shot through the gateway into our dimension.

Course, there's not really any evidence to back that up.

I think Viggo is stronger too. Definitely more sinister.

A VERY tough call.

Gozer was an evil deity and the proton packs they initially fired went right through it. The only reason they did damage was because of Gozer's arrogance. Remember, the team was given the choice to choose the form of their perish/destructor. Only then did Gozer manifest into a physical form which could be combatted through conventional means. If Gozer had remained in the original form shooting lightning and finished the job, I could see him/her/it controlling New York (likely the world) as the influence spread.

Viggo was exceptionally powerful and held many dark secrets and abilities. He was a match for the team even in his own weakened form. Assuming he had a fully grown human body to control, he would give it one hell of a fight to Gozer. Look at what it took to kill him even when he was well over 100 his first time around. He can take some punishment and it was likely a large contingent that finally brought him down.

Playing with the premise that Gozer has already taken over but the spirit of Viggo fed off the negative energy and returns to life during Gozer's dark reign, I could see the people supporting the new evil just to be rid of the first. I am sure Viggo would gather what people could tell him of Gozer as he long predated their cult. He would eventually square off but would lack the mobility and versatility of Gozer. He would get in some powerful magical hits but they would at best buy time and Gozer would eventually either kill Viggo....or force him to be a second in command to help rule in the postion with an iron first.

Sorry..got carried away there :)

Gozer. While Vigo is powerful Gozer is a god. The problem with what happened with Gozer was that he had to choose a form to destroy the wiorld and because of Ray he chose a form whose sole offensive capability is really size

While Vigo had telekinesis, supreme strength and was being energized with the slime fed on negative energy. He had more parlor tricks.

But also look on how they were destroyed. They destroyed Vigo while he was in the painting which seems to be his link to this dimensional plane, the attacked it with Protong guns and attack Vigo with what seems like a counter agent to his negative slime. It probably broke the connection, destroyed or banished Vigo and a bit of psycho manipulation made a poster of Oscar and the saviors, why and how, who knows. Maybe a psychic link, or a response to killing Gozer, maybe their presence and the energy they exuded fighting him left an impression on the painting or whatever psychokinetic stuff that allowed Vigo to live and inhabit the painting?

To defeat Gozer, they had to get almost blown up and use a risky procedure to close the doors on his temple and basically blow up his destructor form, almost destroying them in the process. Gozer required a bit more work in destroying and more risk. And in the end if Ray or some picked a better form for Gozer then he would be impossible to beat

It would be a good fight, but my money is on Vigo. What you said about him taking the full force of the proton beams and throwing them back, He was much stronger than Gozer.

Gozer was a huge bad guy. Look at everything he threw at the GB in the finale: earthquakes, turned 2 people into devil dogs, Mr. Stay Puft the Destroyer, took the form of an evil "Ziggy Stardust" on top of the high rise, opened up a plane to another dimension, almost killed the GBs a few times. Gozer brought on the apocalypse and rose all of these malicious spirits from the dead.

Viggo was trapped in a painting and had a nerdy guy do his bidding. He covered a museum in slime and tried to kidnap a baby. The GB defeated him in about 10 mins once they got inside the museum, haha!

Vigo was a mortal sorcerer attempting to come back to life and using people's negative emotions to fuel his power. Gozer was an ancient god of destruction that traveled through multiple dimensions to destroy whole worlds and could transform into anything. However, as Mr. Stay-Puft, he/she was limited to the bodies capabilities, which greatly limited his/her power, but what Gozer himself/herself was truly capable of was way beyond anything Vigo could do. Gozer was basically toying with the Ghostbusters, and they just happened to get the jump on him/her by destroying the Gate. There's really no comparison.
