Janine's New Look

I just noticed watching them back to back yesterday, in Ghostbusters Janine dresses like your standard 80's receptionist, her hair is brown and cut short, she wears sweaters in earth tones and plaid blouses but in Ghostbusters II she has a completely new avant-garde/quirky look with a magenta bob, and wearing loud clothes like leopard coats accented with accessories neon green gloves.

Was there a reason that Janine was given such an over the top makeover? The only thing that I can think of, is that maybe they wanted to match her more with the cartoon.

The trivia section claims it was due to conform more to her animated counterpart in The Real Ghost Busters. Seems like the success of that show had some influence on the movie.

Here's the link to that piece of trivia as well: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097428/trivia?item=tr1788751

It did because Winston was clean shaved like the cartoons.

You answered your own question there bud

I don't know but I thought she was hot in Ghostbusters 2. Am I the only one?

reply

Agreed

The movie itself was a lot more light-hearted and cartoonish than the first movie too. It's almost like they were trying to appeal to fans of the cartoon.

reply

They should have had Egon as a blond just like the cartoon also.  Nah just kidding. 

reply

No it wasn't, at all.

reply

They did aim a bit younger in the second film, which is a shame, but that’s offset by the clear suggestion that Egon had put his dick in the slime.

i found her more attractive.

i think she dressed conservative to get the job but once they were successful she could dress the way she wanted to punk/new wave. she seemed a little like cyndi lauper in the first one.

reply

I preferred her original look, it suited her personality and was less ‘cartoon’.

reply

I liked her original look, actually I think her hair was more like the cartoon then--spiky. I think Potts in Designing women looked more like the cartoon Janine actually--big hair. She should have been allowed to look like that.

reply

Her 'new' look is too much like Edna from The Incredibles for me. At least lose the circular spectacles. Annie Potts was cute no matter what she did, but she was way cuter in the original.
