Good parts and bad ones-spoiler

The movie was good IMHO, I loved it, just like the original. Some things I really loved, while some irked me. Here are the bad ones first:

1. The whole "Charley repressed the fact vampires exist" routine- it was really boring. I know people tend to repress a lot of bad things that happen to them, but could you ever forget your half-human half-bat neighbor burning in green flames when hit by sunlight? Or his roommate disintegrating in green goo to the bone? Such details show that different people wrote the movies.

2. Peter not believing Charley not believing Peter- again, this plot device was far too overused. This charade went on for the first hour, even more. As soon as one of the leads convinced the other one someone was a vampire, he himself would stop believing that. This could have worked a little, just to keep things at least a little plausible, but again, they overdid it.

3. Charley's hair- I know it's the 80s but come on. :D

4. No mention of Amy- I know Amanda couldn't return so they wrote Amy off, and it kinda makes sense for a 17-18 year old guy to have a new gf every couple of months, especially in college. But they could have mentioned her a bit more, especially since her and Charley would be no ordinary bf/gf after all they've been through.

5. The Shrink's turning- Why did they need that? He was neither important, memorable, scary or funny. He was a really weak chubby vampire, and his death scene was just bizarre. I kinda get that they were trying to make it funny with him psycho-babbling even with a stake through his heart, but it misfired.

6. No resolution for Peter- Not really a problem, just a missed opportunity. Judging by how relaxed Alex and Charley are at the end when they mention him, he probably did alright( got a new job and was cleared of charges). But they could have shown a TV snippet of him, like an ad for a new movie written by, directed and starring him, or an ad for his vampire killing agency, or him narrating a beach volleyball contest after he's done with horror. :)

Now, the good parts I loved:

1. Regina- She was awesome, smoking hot! What a vampire should be- elegant, beautiful, exotic, dark, she even had a seductive accent. Yet she was also menacing, evil and extremely powerful. A fantastic villain indeed! And how she seduced Charley. Half of the time I was thinking "lucky guy", lol.

2. The other monsters- They were such a colorful band, such an improvement over Billy Cole from part 1. The androgynous roller skater, the werewolf, the bug-eating ghoul. They were funny and scary at the same time, and their scenes together were pure gold.

3. The end battle- it was tense, gory, full of twists and nerve-biting. I loved Regina's end!

4. Alex- She was a cool bookish type, likable, and loved Charley indeed.

5. The atmosphere- Tommy Lee Wallace really recaptured the feel of the old Hammer movies in some parts. The lighting, camera angles, special effects... Everything was spot on. It's a shame this guy only got to direct straight to video sequels, and It was his only real movie.

6. Call me a nutter, but I also loved the 80s synth score! It really added to some of the scenes.

So basically, my view of this movie is really positive, despite the few flaws. A worthy sequel at the quality level of 95% of the original.

they did mention Amy briefly when talking about how they got kidnapped by a cult leader not a vampire.. the only thing that really bugged me about this movie is that the Werewolf obviously was supposed to be evil ed but instead of rewriting the part they just changed the dudes name

you have to ask yourself are you a fighter, or are you zombie food

I agree about the Shrink being lame but there was a point to him being a vampire - he was the one who brainwashed Charley into thinking Vamps don't exist, I don't like the repressed memory part either it's a cop-out, I don't know why they couldn't have Charley remember all the vampire stuff from the 1st movie.

OP - I can live with all the bad points you mentioned

the hair doesn't matter at all ( look at todays teen mops for christs sake )

and to the other posters - the synth score is amazing ( captures the first movie too ) so i have no idea why you would think yourself a nutter for liking it.
The shrink vampire isnt really intimidating ( i agree ) but so what... its an hors d'oeuvre for what is to follow.

I agree with the point that Peter Vincent should have gotten an ending ( he got his vampire though )... his ending was happy we just never saw it.

and yes i also agree theres no way you would ever repress something like that ..but *beep* it

I like this movie way too much to let these flaws ( if thats what they are ) bother me

Synth score by none other then BRAD FIEDEL, returning from the first Fright Night as well as Terminator 1 & 2 fame (he wrote the famous Terminator theme!)

I love the scores for both FN 1 & 2! I have the extended score on my iPod!
