Hilarious

I believe this film is sadly overlooked. For me its one of those films that is so bad its actually very entertaining. And while the acting, effects, music and narrative are hilariously awful the Directing and Editing are actually accomplished, to the extent its a smooth enough watch. It is in truth well edited and directed (nice range of mid and close up shots, nicely cut to keep things pacey) which means one can focus on the real awfulness.

The acting deserves special mention as the main protagonist looks vaguely constipated throughout the film. What I also find amusing is that the Dr is never shocked or even mildly surprised at anything he sees. And in this film he sees some pretty whacked out absurd stuff. But he retains throughout a steady look somewhere between constipation and mild irritation, at least he is consistent. Even in the face of seeing a 10ft tall aggressive eight year old dressed in some giant pyjamas The Dr. acts like its not out of the ordinary. This, of course, only makes that scene funnier, especially when the giant kid uses some choice salty language. For some reason the writer is intent on making the Doctor rather lecherous. He freely flirts and fantasizes (to hilarious effect) with his students, in fact he is openly sleeping with one of them. The Doctors lechery is the only trait that stands out to be honest, all his other acting is summed up by the irritated constipation face. What makes this funny is when the Dr is interacting with the other characters due to all the other actors hamming it right up. It's non acting versus turn it up to 11 over acting.

While the directing and editing are at least professional the same cannot be said for the music which really does sound cheap. Everything seems to come through a cheap synthesizer which stands out due to it being so crude and loud. Subtle it is not. Lets not beat around the bush though, the main reason this film is worth an extended laugh (and I do recommend the fast forward button at times) is due to the effects. I'm not sure how they pull off the effects but they have a pleasing kind of organic feel. The giant child is hilarious, the nightmare sex scene might be even better. sadly there is just not enough, I wanted more of these absurd scenes. If the film was cut down to an hour or 70 mins with more giant kid then I genuinely think you have a minor cult classic worthy of reappraisal. Still at this length its well worth a look. Its not quite Strike Commando territory (I would love Reb Brown to have made an appearance) but its not far off.

The movie is pretty fun. I was just annoyed at white happened to the white rat in the end seeing as how it was my favorite character. Other than that it wasn't so bad. Not anywhere near as good as the first film but it's okay.
