Did the dog scene give anyone nightmares?

Kudos to the film makers for creating the most harrowing THREE scenes in cinematic history! No cheesy CGI nonsense in this movie, just rough and tough and ugly in-your-face puppetry and special effects that are far superior (loved the elevator squashing the guys head, yikes). Well, anyways, this movie was much better than I expected. Very emotional movie with great performances and very dark and moody photography and score . A mobid love story involving a pet dog, and then later a co worker named Beth who Martin strikes up a relationship, and the omnipresent corporate tycoon father figure who Martin looks up to, but Bartok is only out to use and exploit him which brings up the interesting subject matter that is especially even more relevant nowadays as it concerns greedy evil big business that has zero morality or compassion for life and will let nothing get in the way of their wealth and profit regardless for all the suffering they cause and Martin no doubt makes those evil executives pay gruesomely or what they did.

No but it did make me cry my eyes out.

After many many viewings of this film, I still have to fast forward through the dog scenes, just cannot watch them. Even though I KNOW its just an animatronic puppet, I just cannot watch it. Makes me feel ill. And sad.

The dog seemed so real in it's recognition of seeing Martin again in it's dungeon. I can watch the scene alright but it does really move me.

reply

It gave me nausea, not nightmares. Like the ending too.

reply

Didn't give me nightmares but just like everyone else, it made me pretty sad. Particularly when I saw it as a kid in the late 80's. Made me really depressed, especially because I have lived with dogs my whole life.

"...loved the elevator squashing the guys head..."

Charming. You are an outcast from society, and don't even know it!!

Superb scene. This movie has it's good moments. It made me emotional all right. Both horrified and sad.

reply

i saw this when i was maybe five or six because i loved the first one, im surprised i still remember the dog and the ending

reply

I'm not! Five or six? You're probably traumatized by it.

reply

i was going to rewatch this film until you recall the head squishing scene

reply

Yes it did, the thought behind puppets is what makes my mind tremble when i see thouse freaks, they look.. natural.

It is astonishing that creators put themselves in that shell and imagined how would you behave having such a body. What would you feel? how would you react to such a state of your being? This is what drags your mind inside, makes you feel not only simple compassion but vast agony of living such a horrible life. Spiced with the bond Martin makes with a dog, and simple knowledge that it stayed alive all this time makes dog scene even more dramatic.

I first watched that movie when i was like 14 and remember looking through the fingers at the freak scenes, now when im 25 these scenes still feel really strong and thoroughly thought out - this is what gives me most of the creeps.
