It's the directing that ruins it

Most of the acting was pretty decent, but the extras used as villagers were pathetic, and this is the fault of the director. There were several scenes where "natives" acted pretty far out-of-character, but the winner is when Nolte is carrying his daughter and talking to the Captain. The little girl makes some really gawky and silly faces, so much so that my attention was drawn entirely to her. A good director would never have printed that take. Worth watching but I gave it 5/10.
