Only 6.5?

I would have thought this superb movie would have rated at least an 8.0. What's wrong with this world?

reply

I know, I don't understand this either...
Most people only give movies like Titanic high ratings.
I gave this movie a 10.
It's so good. There are so many stories between the lines in this movie. You just have to watch closely!

reply

10!!! I couldn't love anyone who didn't love this film.

reply

I agree, it's such a good movie!! :)

reply

9 out of 10. Absolutely!

I remember really looking forward to seeing this, and then being disappointed. At the time I had also asked someone else who saw it and her opinion was similar to mine. She thought Michelle Pfeiffer's character was great and well-played, but didn't care too much for the Boys. Maybe now that we're older we might see something in it we missed before.

I also remember this came out a few months before Driving Miss Daisy--which I found to be much more entertaining.

reply

Because it is not too well known. Just look at the number of votes. But it does deserve a much higher rating than 6.5.

reply

I think it speaks to the average age of the IMDBers.
And to that I say: Their loss!

There's a word for people who think everyone is conspiring against them.
That's right: perceptive!

i think it isn't really a film for young people. you probably would like it better now.

it's a pretty deep film, well done, with great characters

It deserves at least a 9. I personally give it a 10. I watch it whenever it's on TV and enjoy it every time.

There are probably four or five movies that I can watch again and again and never get tired of them. When they are over, I'd love to just watch them again right then and there. This is one of them.

reply

I agree the movie deserves much higher than a 6.5, however you must admit the plot is thin and predictable. We all enjoyed watching Beau and Jeff play out their brotherly angst and Michelle's wowza moves and sultry vocals. However without those three, this film would have never even made it out of the editing room. Soo good job to the casting director, Dave Grusin's Score and the three stars. I wish the setting wasn't Seattle too... New York would have been much more interesting.

reply

Definitely absurd for the rating for this movie to be that low. This movie is absolutely outstanding! One of Michelle Pfeiffer's best performances.

reply

Agreed.

Should be at least near 8, if not 8.something...

Wait a minute... who am I here?

reply

Yeah agree also was surprised when I saw this rating but whatever it is a great movie that's all that matters. Love all the Seattle scenes.

reply

Just watched and enjoyed the Seattle setting but the film is not too good. The rating is about right. Jeff Bridges over did his aloof, sullen character. Pfeiffer overplayed as well except for the singing parts. I bought her as a nightclub singer. Not sure why her character cusses a lot at first and then stops for the rest of the film. The montage of singers auditioning was hilarious.

I'm happy to see that i'm not alone. No problem with all those mind *beep* movies but this one shows how a simple story is enough. Takes an 8 from me.

i totally agree, OP

although 6.5 is high "for imdb" it could be higher imo
