musical score on Baker Boys

Why didn't the musical director of the score for this movie get (a) nominated, and (b) awarded an Oscar?? Even if the music 'played' by the two Bridges was subbed, the overall score was a fabulous mix that added to the drama & impact of the story.

Anyone agree?

reply

Yes. Totally agree.

However, that said, while I still think the film remains underrated, it was not THAT overlooked at the time - it DID receive an Oscar nom for Original Score, along with 3 others:

Wait a minute... who am I here?

Dave Grusin is one of the most under-awarded composers in Hollywood. And unfortunately, it looks like he's pretty much retired at this point. I have this score on CD and it's great!

Two others that are "unmistakably Grusin" are his scores for Mulholland Falls and Random Hearts. He's been one of my favorite movie composers for a long time - along with Jerry Goldsmith and Alan Silvestri. But for "mood music," you can't beat Grusin.

My favorites include TOOTSIE and ON GOLDEN POND.

In March, his full score for THE GOONIES is finally going to be released. The original sound track only had two of his cues + a bunch of pop tunes.

i really like tequila sunrise and the music he did for that.

i can always recognize his stuff, and also his music has a way of reminding me of the film when i listen to it, which is a sign it did its job well imo

grusin is the man. really

i agree he is underappreciated
