Prepubescent girl in single man's apartment alone realistic?

I have no doubt Jack would do anything wrong with this girl and I am not accusing him of that, but is this situation even a little bit realistic in the real world? Would a mother allow her daughter to be alone, much less spend the night, in a 40 year old single man's apartment? Thoughts?

Ooooh, you wicked, wicked monkey! Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire

Late 80's? Yeah, I was dog sitting(and one mean ass African Grey parrot) for the older single men in the small town we lived in from the time I was old enough to babysit. They did not have kids but they had pets and I charged a whole fifty cents an hour(kids were seventy-five cents but I still like pets better even in my late 40's LOL). Now? Questionable, I've seen parents do worse now(leaving children alone 8yrs and under so they can go to the bar) but then again, times change.

Are you out of your mind? You are everything that's wrong with this world. Yes, it's realistic unless you have a filthy mind weaned by the media. Disgusting. Shame on you - what are you twelve?

I think in the US, you can't be alone with any kid, even your own, or help any kid in need lest you be accused of pedophilia. Check out the film Witch Hunt.

Sure. I don t think the sexual assault possibility was at all on the filmmakers mind here. The lil girl and that whole storyline with her mom is just another layer and level to show that loneliness exists in everyone at every age. It is part of life and gets all of us. Its not a hideout or a cool thing. It is omnipotent and everywhere. Loneliness was Jacks cover - Susie tells him in the end that he s a fake. Also because she secretly wanted him to admit liking her more than other one night stands. So much to your (inevitable but unneccessary) question.
