Comedic Cuckoos Nest
i've always kinda thought this. Like the general idea & some of the characters were somewhat based on it.
Probably posted before but yeh...

Considering that Lloyd was in "Cuckoo's Nest" and the storyline parallells it, I think you have a point.
shareI would say that "Cuckoo's Nest" is itself comedic, despite the dark storyline, but it isn't an outright comedy.
shareI just watched this for the first time today, and I loved it. It was recommended to me by my psychology professor last semester. The fact that you bring up the Cuckoo's Nest similarity is very funny, because I was just thinking while watching it how similar a character Keaton's was to Nicholson's McMurphy. Perhaps, McMurphy could have been an inspiration for Billy.
Good call also on Christopher Lloyd bein in both films. I hadn't thought about that until you brought it up.
i watched this before i saw the cuckoo's nest and found it was weird how christopher Lloyd was in both seeing as there are soo many key similaritys. i enjoyed both films and think they are top examples of the separate genres..
shareI've always seen this connection,
- Both films are about mental patients let loose from the institution.
- Christopher Lloyd is in both films.
- The Dream Team came out the same year as Batman (1989) - which features Nicholson/Keaton.
- Both protagonists - Nicholson/Keaton each have those crazy eyebrows.

Not to mention, they're all going to a ball game, which was a main plot point in Cuckoo's Nest about wanting to watch the ball game.
shareNot just similar..... a shameless rip off of the basic plot idea.... ten years later. Michael Douglas bought the rights to Coo Coo and should get a cut as well as the original writers.
