My favorite movie of all time.

Yeah, I don't know why, but I love watching this movie.

Its definately something you'll find yourself thinking about days later, and it uses color in a very interesting way.

The movie starts off by removing the top of your skull, the pouring liquid scotch guard onto your pituitary gland. You feel as if the t.v. is leaking some sort of radiation of some sort, you run and find a radon detector, but it registers nothing, your borrow your neighbors radiation detector, still nothing.......

It is the tape people, do not fight it, just sit back, laugh and watch it 6 times in a row.

But remember to put the top of your skull back on before you go to bed (things could get messy if not)

We show this film every year at Burning Man, as part of Bad Idea Theater. It's always well received. We even made up a custom DVD that took the clean audio from the laserdisc and married it to the underground DVD that has been circulating about.

How is your version different from a straight LD rip?

Where can I find this on DVD? I have it on Video tape but don't have a VCR anymore (thanks to an apartment building fire that destroyed everything I own)...

I found this on DVD by tracking down the excutive producer, calling his office (thinking it would be some small-time has-been operation who would be so happy to hear from one of their demented fans), and being told by his receptionist that I should order from their website...
Website!? "Yes, Mr.Steiner's company, Excalibur Films dot com sir, it shows as being in stock on DVD."
I had just called the head of one of the world's biggest adult-movie distrubutors! So that's where the exec prod. is now, and he is gracious (or punishing) enough to make his film available to the world through his company's website.

So to make a long story longer, I've ordered numerous copies (Dr.Caligari makes a great gift...uhm...yeah) from ExcaliburFilms without a hitch. The quality could be better and the packaging it comes in is generic, but it still beats my blown-out VHS copy.

Hope this helps others find and enjoy this bizzare and creative movie.

I just saw Forbidden Zone and I found that it played a bit like a b/w zany comedy version of this. All expressionist sets and acting. Loved it.

I shall be visiting your camp this year, sir.
'Tis been far too long since I've seen this fine film.

Holy crap, the first time I saw this movie was at Bad Idea Theater at BM in 2006. Totally loved it, came by and saw it again the next year. Always look for it at DVD sales, no luck . My last time there, couldn't find you guys, do you still participate?

This film is such a crack-up, it's so bizarre it makes Tim Burton look staid and drab. I agree, play it several times in a row and by the end of the evening watch how many of your friends are barking, "Chinchilla! Chinchilla! Chinchilla!" and intoning "Peeeeeee-cheeeeeeee..."

This is definitely a "see with your cool-weirdo friends" movie.

What I love about the film is that the first Dr. Caligari was a very bizarre film with weird shadows and stylized movements too. When I first saw it I was going, "Whot da faaaaahhhhhhh...?" for a few minutes, then I just laughed, sat back and let them take me for a ride. What a ride. Would love to see it again. Can't find it anywhere...wah...

BTW, mentioned in my previous post, you can get this on DVD from ExcaliburFilms.
The executive producer of "Dr.Caligari" is some big honcho at excalibur and has it available there. That's the only place in the world I have ever seen it for sale on DVD.
Kudos to Gerald M. Steiner for keeping this flame of weirdness alive!
Next to "The Apple" this is one of the craziest cult films I have ever seen.
Now if I could only sucker some theater into midnight screenings. ;)
