can anybody answer this?

Hi,
I did not quite understand a couple of things and I was wondering what they might be. In the scene where they hold Perhan and then put some stuff inside his pants, what was the stuff? In the other scene, Perhan throw some bun like thing attached to the rope in to the sea and then picked up and ate it, what was that bun-like thing and why did he threw it in the sea? I would really appreciate if someone answers these questions.
Thanks in advance.

The first answer is pepper or s-thing similar taken from the kitchen.
I have no idea which is the meaning of throwing a bun in the water and then picking it back for eating.

The scene which he eats the bun is when he returns to his country.. might be a gypsy culture!!

Maybe he wanted a bit of sea salt flavoring for the bun.

I found a reference in a book about biscuits being dipped in sea water in the book "The House of seven gables" written in 1851 by Nathaniel Hawthorne:

"A few of those biscuits, dipped in sea-water, will be just what I need for breakfast."

So, it wouldn't be just a Gypsy/Roma thing to dip buns/biscuits in sea water before eating them.
