Movie Poster

Okay, I just saw the MST3K version of this film, and enjoyed their taking this sad movie and making it a lot more fun. However, I was shocked when I saw the movie poster for this movie. What?!? What does ANY of the art have to do with the movie? This isn't like other posters in the Frazetta epic style, as it clearly has NOTHING to do with any of the content of the movie. As I recall, there were several movie posters back in the 80's that were a bit misleading, but I really feel sorry for anyone who paid to see the movie based on seeing the movie posters back in the day.

Did they get the movie poster art done BEFORE the movie was made? What was the deal?
