petition

any fans out there up for a petition to bring this beauty onto special edition DVD?

reply

It would be great to see this in a special edition it's such an underated film...But I don't think WB would feel the same.

reply

I believe this movie was made in 4:3, so it would be hard to do a special edition DVD from a TV movie. Or am I wrong?

This wasn't a TV movie, just a flop :(

I really like it regardless, but I am a huge frankenhiemer fan.

Hell, I'd just settle for a letterboxed anamorphic transfer. Like Sharky's Machine, Warner has given it an unforgivable full-frame transfer. Yeah, both films weren't shot in 2.35:1, ut still, they should be available in their original aspect ratio.

TOTALLY AGREE!!

I caught "Dead-Bang" last night on the Universal HD channel (in case your wondering, they don't only show Universal movies). It was the most beautiful print of the film I ever saw. So now that I know it exists in HD, I'm sure the Blu-Ray or an Anamorphic Widescreen version is well on its way.

Love this film, one of my favorite cop films, directed by the great John Frankenheimer and a gripping, first-rate performance by Don Johnson.

Totally should be re-issued. Glorious entertainment!

reply

100% agree. A very underrated movie.

reply

Yep. It's a cop movie, right up there with Dirty Harry and the likes. Well, not quite as good as the first one, but it holds up. Frankenheimer was a great filmmaker, and Don Johnson should have been an action movie star.

If any of you have a region free DVD player, the region 4 is widescreen 16:9

Okay. Where can I get this?

reply

You can get Region 4 DVD's from www.dvdorchard.com.au ; I will warn you though, shipping will cost you as much as the movies ($12 shipping US for 1 movie), but I think it's worth it.

yup I hate of the 4x3 as well. even though I seriously doubt it will ever happend, I would love a widescreen dvd with at least a commentary with frankenheimer and johnson and maybe some behind the scenes. I really liked the film.

Just thinking of this, and wanted to show my family. How can there be no good DVD of this? Why do studios let stuff they already invested in already languish in obscurity.

I remember it being advertised on TV, rather a lot. Was expected to be a big deal in the post Miami Vice era when Don Johnson was a big deal. Didn't do well, and the ad campaign did not impress me. Caught it on HBO some time later and was very impressed.

Its John Frankenheimer! Even his low-budget lost-years shows are awesome and this, despite any oddities of the era, is a great movie.
