I like Don Johnson....but

I thought he was great in Miami Vice, but could never really get into any of his other work. I can't explain it. I can't say that he was pigeon-holed into Miami Vice. The movie's he's been in always seemed to be a bit cheesey. Like Dead Bang.

He was great in both Death Bang, The Hot Spot and Long Hot Summer. His roles where particularly same in THS and LHS.

Why was this film unsuccessful? I only caught a few minutes of it here and there. I think i didn't watch it cuz DJ seemed to believe his own hype too muc and it made me disinterested in believing he could play a compelling character that didn't tap into the popularity of his Crockett character. If i happen to find this movie again I'll try to give it a fairer opinion. It's already been well over 20 years since i last gave it a go on HBO.

C'mon - Bogart and Cagney would love the way he spoke. Not a bit cheasy. The tormented cop.

Yeah, well, Miami Vice itself had plenty of cheese on offer as well - especially when they tried to be funny. Or "deep". As for Don Johnson... he was almost, dare I say, great here - had some wonderful scenes (especially the one with "Woody Allen") and his character, although another tough cop, was miles removed from Sonny Crockett. Perhaps he would have deserved more chanches as a film leading man after all.
