What happened to the row boat?

When Sam Neill gets the engine running on the sinking ship it shows him towing the rowboat behind it. But after he sets the ship on fire he floats off on a small handmade raft. What happened to the rowboat? Superb movie otherwise. I give it 10/10.

Possibly he tied it to the ship, but when it sank while he was trapped, it was submerged.
