Is kevin Spacey's character a son of Dad, brother to John or is he married to the sister?????

I fended off boredom by pondering this conundrum...

Married to Kathy Baker, John's sister. He is Jakes son in law.

I had problems figuring that out too, until Mario said something to Bettie and Annie said something about "my mom." So I figured Marion had to be Annie's husband.
