An oldie but a goodie

I recently re-watched after purchasing an action movie dvd bundle. There are such great deals for DVD movies, 8 for $5. Anyways, the movie is very good and somehow deep. The creepy narration at the start really sets the tone. A cure? Why? I love the pain and agony, something like that. Not trying to hate, but they never specified why the lady needed to convert into a cyborg. Why?
