Best Serious Allen Film

I re-watched it yesterday after not having seen it in years. Hands-down, this is not only Allen's best serious film but one of the top ten films of the 80's. The only film that comes close to "Crimes and Misdemeanors" in Allen's middle-years is "Manhattan Murder Mystery," which is fundamentally as complex but side-splittingly funny.

"Crimes and Misdemeanors" is Allen's version of (the Coens') "A Serious Man."

What did you think of Interiors?

I agree with your appraisal of Crimes, OP, but not Murder Mystery which is fun but essentially fluff. Purple Rose of Cairo, Hannah and Her Sisters and Husbands and Wives are all far superior imo. And if the other respondent on the thread is interested, I think Interiors is a noble and interesting experiment, but also a stilted and dull failure of a movie.
