Albert Spica, the most odious film character ever.

I have yet to come across another character who fills me with such a sense of loathing and revulsion. A fantastic performance by Michael Gambon.

He was incredible, but I have to mention Ray Fiennes as Goeth in Schindler's list.

Noah Cross from Chinatown is an odious character too.

reply

Not really, he was just a jealous gangster boyfriend. A typical villain would already have worst motivations or actions (just look at Dicaprio from Django Unchained).

For a movie like this, the antagonist cannot be too inhumane or else the premise would weaken.

4 years have passed since you wrote those words and I still agree. :)

Many things have changed in the last four years but my opinion of Albert Spica remains the same :D

LOL. I loved Michael Gambon in The Singing Detective. This man is a true acting legend.

Gambon keeps turning up in quality films and series that I get around to seeing. Was in a series I really enjoyed, Fortitude (am hoping it hasn't been cancelled!), and now he's turned up in another series HBO killed off too soon that I'm just finishing - Luck, starring Dustin Hoffman & Dennis Farina. He's become an indicator of quality - if Michael Gambon is in it, it's probably worth seeing.
