Albert's Restaurant, an ideal location for a Bibliophiles' Convention!

Haven't seen The Cook for a very long time but the scene I always remember is when the vile, uncultured Albert discovers that his wife's lover is (gasp, shock horror!) reading a book in his restaurant & roughly throws him out for committing such a despicable act - "How dare you read here" etc, Albert is apoplectic at the sight of such an outrage, such an act of 'vandalism' ... which emphasises just what a twisted, fascist creature he is! It reminded me of Nazi book-burning in the Third Reich. Michael Gambon gives an extraordinary tour de force performance in TCTTHWHL, up there with his Singing Detective triumph.

It is generally viewed as rude to read while dining out. Albert was not being "Nazi". He was merely upholding proper Victorian manners.

... Albert not being Nazi? For him the worst horror were jews, only topped by black jews
