Chick Flick

"Cold Sassy Tree" is definitely a film that would appeal to women. It is just too slow and relationship focused to appeal to men. Avoid this unless you want to cure your insomnia!

I am a man, and I enojoyed the movie. I've always liked Richard Widmark, and it was a great change of pace for him to be doing a romantic lead for a change.

Don't get me wrong,I can enjoy a chick flick if it is engaging and I like the characters. This just wasn't the case with this movie.

I generally avoid what paases for romantic comedy these days as well as many other movies although I did enjoy DRAG ME TO HELL a few years ago. I thought it was the funniest movie I'd seen in years, and I'm 69. Give me Tracy and Hepburn, Hepburn and Grant, Fred and Ginger, etc.

I tried writing romantic comedy about 18 months ago-- TREASURE ISLAND WITH ZOMBIES. It just isn't the kind of story to appeal to my wife. The problem with the original story is there isn't any romance in it because it's a boy's adventure story.

Somebody else I just thought of when it comes to offbeat romantic comedy--Preston Sturges. SULLIVAN'S TRAVELS and UNFAITHFULLY YOURS are very dark comedies.

That's when films were pretty good. Fortunately for DVD and VHS I'll be exploring that era of Hollywood soon, right now though I've been working my way through the eighties.

Nothing wrong with going to earlier movies to fulfill entertainment needs. For the last two years I have pretty much stuck to eighties and early nineties era movies and avoided releases made in the 2000's. In fact, I'll probably will work my way backwards. It isn't a steady rule, but I've found the recent Hollywood fare NOT to my liking at all.
