I met the Cheetah that starred in this movie!!!!

Back in 1996 they bought that Cheetah from the movie to a local mall here. He wasn't in a cage or anything, just on a leash, and people were allowed to pet him. He was really gentle and not at all like a wild animal. I've never seen this movie because none of the video stores around here have it. :( I would like to see what a good actor that cheetah was! Does anyone know if this movie will ever be available on dvd??

You have some misunderstandings about cheetahs my friend. Cheetahs are considered the most gentle and non-aggresive big cats. They are easily tamed and were trained as pets thousands of years ago. There has been virtually no reports on any cheetahs attacking a human. Even a wild cheetah can be tamed with proper training technique, let alone a cub. They would purr to you (cheetahs and cougars are the only big cats that can purr) and they would lick you (but it's not really tolerable because their tonques are like rough sand papers). They would also probably like to sleep in your bed, but duh!

I know this sounds like a great reason to have a cheetah pet. I myself dream of having a cheetah too. But in reality it's illegal because both international and local regulations forbid private ownerships of wild animals, not to mention that cheetahs are very endangered. The cost of taking care of a cheetah properly is beyond most people too.

Long live cheetahs!

In New York State you are allowed to own exotic and endangered pets but as you said, the upkeep on those kind of "pets" are very expensive indeed and if you are unable to maintain and contain the animal, it will be repossessed. I live in Albany ( Colonie, a township ) NY and our neighbor had a puma, a cougar, a mountain lion! This kitty behaved much like a dog( A VERY BIG dog, except its a CAT!!!! Amazing to see in real life!!! ) but with the sophistication of a cat, minus the arrogance our little house kitties possess! They had a very high fence and even though it was high, the great cat still managed to jump it on Halloween 1994. The cat, whos name was Bagheera, if I recall correctly ( even though Bagheera was a black leopard according to Kipling ), did not harm any children as he lived with three. He must've wanted to stretch his limbs, and in the true spirit of most cats, didn't desire to be restricted in any way, shape, or form. The tall fence probably provoked him! But moral of the story, NYS obtained custody of him and he then became property of the Bronx Zoo. Damn I miss that cat!

Clem:This is it, Joel. It's going to be gone soon.
Joel:I know.
C:What do we do?
J:Enjoy it.

is the cheetah the same one that played in "duma" another movie about a cheetah.

Movies take up 1/3 of my life. The other two parts are xbox and television.

Is Duma the name of this movie's cheetah? Because I have been wracking my brain trying to figure out if this is the movie I'm thinking of. And I know it's not the 2005 version, because the one I'm thinking of is old school.

reply

Yes, the cheetah in Cheetah (1989) was named Duma.

my roommate met this cheetah once as well. He was in grade five in Nova Scotia, and the cheetah and its trainer came to his school. He's always talking about how the trainer asked a series of questions about animals, and he got something like 8 consecutive questions right. I guess he read a lot of animal books. anyway, the trainer was so impressed he let my roommate pet the creature, which no one was really allowed to do. The only question he remembers, its actually only the answer he remembers, was "the black footed prairie dog". it was the final question which actually prompted the trainer to reward his knowledge, possibly seeing something of himself in the young man.
