Dale Dye

For mine the most memorable scene in the film is the exchange between Fox and Dale Dye, where Dye all but defends the actions of the squad.

Obviously their actions were despicable, but Dye's argument, and the conviction with which he posits it...it almost makes you think twice. An atrocity was probably committed every other day in Vietnam, so what difference is one more, especially when bringing the squad to trial would mean taking men away from where they are needed?

I believe the Fox character did the right thing - after all, how can you trust men who have no problem with rape and murder to simply reintegrate into society ? - but I would love to know what Dye, a veteran, thinks about the matter.
