Ninth Night?

Hi,

I just watched this on Netflix and am curious about the "Ninth Night" belief. It was said that the dead is buried with whips and on the ninth night they will identify their killer (or let them be known) or something to that effect.

Does anyone know if this is based on an actual belief system? If so, where do they practice this custom?

I tried to Google it, but didn't find anything leading me to believe it was made up for the movie, but thought I'd ask anyway.

Did you possibly get a hint that I tried that when I typed "I googled it and..." or did that sentence not register for you?

"Get busy living, or get busy dying." Andy (The Shawshank Redemption)

You're Googling the wrong thing...try Googling "Nine Nights" and you will find quite a bit of information.

Thanks. Didn't see this until I just got notice for the reply below yours.

Here's a link to Wiki's article on the Nine Nights beliefs. It's an interesting read for anyone who is interested in this aspect of the movie:-
