I liked it, but..
I could have gone without the psychokinetic stuff. I would have loved a simpler boy vs monster story, but that's just my opinion.
Still enjoyed the movie overall though.

Well, Gary Brandner was always big into the One Step Beyond-style psychic stuff. It was one of his trademarks.
To me, the psychokinesis added an element of uncertainty--is there REALLY a monster in the closet, or was Cameron doing it all himself with the PK?
