Let me guess. She got the role for this film because Ridley Scott saw Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom and thought, "Hey, she's the go too gal when you need blonde cheesecake prancing around like an idiot in Asian nightclubs."

I thought she was a nice side character and someone to relate to for non-Japanese (including Conklin). The movie gets plus points for not making her some typical romantic interest for Nick.

Yeah, she actually played her role well and it was nice to have another American character for Nick to confide in.

Kate was hot in her day. She was annoying as hell in Temple of Doom, but she plays low-key much better in Black Rain. She probably had a bigger role in the extended cut.

The film definitely needed a 'Nick getting over Charlie's death by banging Kate' scene, her slowly riding him with those yummers popped out over her cocktail dress. Damn!
