dialects and foreign language in the film

For non-Chinese speakers may not know there are dialects in the film:

1. The main language spoken in the film is a dialect: Fu-kien - mainlandese, so called Taiwanese. As since about three hundred years agon immigrants from Main Land China brought their dialect in Taiwan as majority. (the native Taiwanese should be the obriginals being in Taiwan for thousand years)

2. Mandrine was spoken as after second world war the govment of Republic China take over Taiwan fro Jap., Mandrine is the official speech of China.

3. Shang-hai dialect was spoken. Despite the official language, hundreds of dialects are still spoken all over China. The Shang-hai merchants always speak
Shang-hai.

4. Japanese language was spoken, as Taiwan was under Jap's occupation for fifty years.

Thanks for that. I had some neighbours growing up who spoke a strange dialect that I never knew exactly what it was and neither did they growing up in English-speaking North America. Surprisingly this was the only film I've seen where their language was spoken. Now I'd heard of dialects like Fu-kien, Shanghai and Hakka, but never really heard them either, so I was never clear which it was. Now I'm certain it was Fu-kien. I'll have to contact them and ask if they ever found out what it was they spoke.
