The best movie I've ever seen

The depictions of the characters are so realistic and subtly and carefully written and acted. As a spectator, I felt like I was allowed a glimpse of these people's real lives; I was allowed to stand in the corner and peek, carefully and gently into their reality. Not only is the writing and the acting full of gentleness, but it feels as though the viewer, too, adopts a kind of tenderness while watching the lives of the characters unfold.

That's some wonderful insight, monika, and I feel the same way. What's amazing about Hou's direction is that he knows how to use the camera to completely grab the attention of the viewer. There are no distractions, no quick cuts. Hou takes his time, he wants you to become part of what you're watching, he doesn't want you to lose focus, and on this front, he succeeds.

Terrific movie.

Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.
