Burton's Batman is cooler than Joker

Couple of times I would read that Burton cares more about the villains than the Batman character and that may or may not be true. But the fact is no matter what, Keaton's Batman always remained more cool than any villain he was facing. When the movie was over no one thought that Nicholson joker upstaged the Batman but the other way around. Nolan's joker completely and I do mean completely upstaged Bale Batman.

Agreed. Keaton's Batman always maintained a certain mystique and aura. Bale's Batman just came across like a dork. He's constantly getting bested by villains. The comical voice didn't help either.

Nolan's Batman is like a college freshman, everyone is telling him what to do. From his butler to the commissioner to Morgan Freeman to his girlfriend who is not his girlfriend. No wonder people leave the cinema idolizing joker. At least joker is acting on his own agency. On the other hand Keaton even though he is a short guy known for comedy roles instead of serious ones before Batman holds his own against Jack Nicholson playing Joker and against anyone really. The voice doesn't even need to be mentioned but yes Bales voice sounds like a kid trying to sound dangerous but makes him look stupid. At the end of the day fans left the cinema thinking how cool Batman (the character) is after watching Burton's version but left thinking how cool the Joker is after watching Nolan's version. I didn't watch Dark knight rises but I heard batman gets beat up by a guy wearing a mask that talks with a British accent lol.

On the contrary. I thought Keaton's portrayal was kind of passive until Batman Returns. He gets the shit kicked out of him a couple times in the '89 movie.

If all the Batman movies this is the only one I didn’t watch. I hate dark movies where you can’t see shit. Happens a lot in 90’s movies. I will watch it over the weekend I guess.

You need to find a good version where the lighting is just right, with right setting you will be able to see enough in the dark scenes. Burton thought to film batman only in dark scenes because he thought in day scenes the suit would look ridiculous which I agree with. That is why batman is carefully staged in Burton's version and any scene where Batman is over exposed or in a normal frame it looks silly, but in Burton's case that is very few scenes, around 90 percent batman scenes look very good.
