Things Burton did better than Nolan

Burton is a very visual artist and with Batman character he wanted to create a world where a character like Batman would make sense or be believable to a viewer. Nolan on the other hand is for some reason fascinated by the suits, people in suits and offices and in the dark knight that is his setting. Business offices, buildings, and so on. Now am I the only one who finds it silly to watch a grown man dresses as a bat where the backdrop is some business building or an office and two gentlemen, Harvey and commissioner Gordon are having a normal conversation, of course dressed normally. What about the Batman under the neon lights in a basement, interrogating the joker while the police observes a guy dressed as a Batman through a window, scream incoherently. My reaction honestly to that is laughter, not unlike joker because in this movie and setting batman just makes no sense and is funny. At least Burton had the common sense to keep him in the shadows, against the gothic backdrop where it kind of looks cool.

Yeah burtons movies were like gothic fantasy movies. Nolan made Michael Mann movies starring batman

You @#$@ing nailed it.

Things Burton did better than Nolan: Batman movies.

Frankly Burton Batmobiles for this and Batman Returns>Forever's Batmobile>Batman and Robin's Batmobile>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Nolan's standard looking military vehicle which looks nothing like the Batmobile to me and never will. Then again it could've been worse I guess. The original comics of Batman in the late 30s had him driving a normal everyday car.

reply

Haha yeah. And on one of old Batman tv shows (the one before Adam West's) they had Batman driving around in a normal convertible with the roof closed and Bruce Wayne with the roof opened. As if people can't see that it's the same exact car. Pretty stupid lol.

reply

That was a serial shown in theaters. I believe Vicki vales asked batman why he drove Bruce Wayne's car

reply

everything

reply

Pretty much everything. Batman, Gotham, the music, the atmosphere, the Batmobile. Nolan is just a Michael Mann wannabe.

reply

And better Catwoman too.

reply

Burton did Bruce's parents death scene better, other than that Nolan totally owns Burton.

The Burton films are fine if you just want to turn your brain off for 2 hours or if you're 12 but the Nolan films are the ones with the deep psychological themes about human nature and society. The Nolan films are the ones for adults.

reply

You are a jerk and a bully for saying that anybody who prefers Burton's movies isn't an adult. Also who watches a Batman movie for "deep psychological themes about human nature and society"? That's not really why I watch any movie for. I watch it to be entertained. You really are a snob for saying that!

reply

Just stating my opinion, you need to respect it.

reply

Whatever. I still don't think most people watch the Nolan Batman movies to see deep psychological themes about human nature and society.

reply

Good for you, I'll let you know the day I care.

reply

They don't. This idiot just likes to pretend like Nolan's Batman movies have any genuine depth when they don't. They're full of lazy plot points like Blake figuring out who Batman is from a look. Just the height of bad writing.

Burton, unlike Nolan, has a sense of humour.

Burton’s movies were just a lot more fun and had a gothic theatrical feel which helped blend all of the weirdness together. I thought he went too far with the panto stuff in Returns, but nailed it in Batman ‘89 - probably because the studio reigned him in.

Keaton was way more charming than Bale, the batmobile was amazing, Basinger was smoking hot (compare to... Gyllenhall)

I’ve come to respect Nolan’s vision, and he certainly improved as a filmmaker as the series went on, but there’s something of a moody teenager about his earlier work and that definitely affected his Batman.
