What If Harley Quinn Was In Batman 89?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOFolvlIyRw

Harley Quinn was created for Batman: The Animated Series in 1992 by Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. This was 3 years after Tim Burton's Batman film brought the Dark Knight back to his Gothic roots. But what if Burton had the opportunity to put his own spin on The Joker's better half? How would have Jack Nicholson's version of the Clown Prince of Crime interacted with the now iconic DC character? Who would have even played her in 1989? Holy fan fiction, Batman! Rob Walker brings you his version of how it all would have went down in this month's FanScription!

Jamie Presly

Jamie would be 12 years old in 1989.

I think either Madonna, Meg Ryan or Suzanne Somers would have been perfect for it.

reply

Whoa... I had forgotten about her. She does look a lot like Margot Robbie though...

reply

She does.

If you have ever seen Who's That Girl?, then it's easy to believe that Madonna was playing a version of Harley Quinn before Harley Quinn was ever a thing.

Yeah I like Whos that Girl. I remember watching it back when it aired on Cable TV alot in the early 2000s. Now it doesn't seem to ever come on anymore. I'd like it to get on Netflix.

But yeah, Madonnas character was pretty close to what Harley is like in that movie. She would have been great in it with the right Joker casting next to her. Not sure I'd go with Jack though. I personally like the idea of Ted Danson doing it.

Jennifer Tilly is another actress who I could've easily imagined as Harley Quinn had she existed back in 1989.

reply

Hmm perhaps, but I like the idea of young Madonna doing it best.

reply

Meg Ryan be cool!!

reply

Hmm not bad, but to be honest I like the idea of her as Catwoman more.

reply

Except Harley Quinn wasn't created until 3 years after this movie came out. So it's rather pointless to wish otherwise.

reply

People can still have fun with the thought of the "What If"

reply

Lori Petty would have been good for the role, Harley Quinn was supposed to appear in the cancelled sequel Batman Triumphant, Brittany Murphy would of been perfect in that.

Great suggestions.

reply

I'm pretty sure she was included in the film. Jack.. you said I could watch you improve the paintings...

Come to think of it, I wonder how in an alternate universe, would Kim Basinger herself have fared as Harley Quinn? I had posted in the message board for Cool World that had that movie been made today, then Margot Robbie could play her character, Holli Would. I would just imagine Kim's character in Cool World as template of sorts. I don't know if Kim Basinger can put on a childish, high pitched, thick New York accent like the Harley Quinn character typically has though.

reply

No, she is more of a sweet type and I can't see her getting that character going. She probably largely plays some version of herself in everything.
