Batman vs. Belltower Joker Goon

I think this is one of the best scenes in the movie. It shows a battered, bruised and bloody Batman endure a tremendous ordeal and come out victorious in the end, even though it was in a brutal fashion. Also, one of the only times Batman appears to be human after being portrayed as an unstoppable force throughout the movie.

Some reference, Batman just survived the crash of the Batwing, and is in terrible condition. The Batsuit is heavily damaged from the flames, showing the Bat emblem to be cracked and burned, the armor seared and melted, and his cheek cut and bleeding. That is the visible damage. Who knows what other injuries he has suffered but they can't be minor. A crash at that speed into concrete steps can certainly attest to that. He is lucky to be alive afterwards.
He is probably concussed, which is safe to say, as he has difficulty moving the rubble covering him at the entrance of the Cathedral, and when he is making his way through towards the bell tower doorway he has some trouble walking and seems to be feeling the effects of his injuries, He regains his composure for a second then he stumbles again this time into the pews and knocks them over.

This indicates a severely weakened Batman in a disoriented state. Even then, he still manages to make the effort to walk up the eight-hundred-foot Cathedral staircase, which wouldn't be easy for an average human being, let alone Batman wearing the fifty-pound Batsuit. He is almost crushed by the falling bell and still after that can move quickly and makes it to the belfry.

The Goon is the bigger man in comparison, fresh in stamina and superior in strength to Batman. He shows his strength when he caught Batman off guard and easily threw him into the belfry wall. Batman quickly recovers and engages the Goon with a kick that sent other criminals flying, which again addresses his weakened state as the Goon barely registers the attempt. Batman must be in using all his concentration as he swiftly evades the block and tackle being hurled at him. It is so heavy that it makes a brick column crumble from the impact.

Batman vanishes after seemingly falling into the stairwell but only a brick is seen tumbling into the abyss. Where did he go? The Goon searches for him, then we see him appear on top of the bell afterwards. I don't know how he got up there or what Batman was intending to do by leaping towards the Goon, perhaps to get behind him. Batman underestimated his strength and is redirected in mid-air towards a set of stairs that he gets sent through yet again by the Goon. More indication of disorientation as Batman simply goes rigid as the Goon gets him in a headlock and drags him out of the debris. Another throw into a column produces a loud thud as Batman visibly winces from the impact and doubles over into another punch from the Goon.

A roll into a quick-turn and Batman seems angry as he tries to grab the Goon but is overpowered with ease, though he seems to make his abdomen an easy target for the Goon to attack, perhaps to soften the blows with the armor, though not fully. When Batman is pushed into the bell and falls into the opening beneath, it seems as if he has perished.

The Goon checks to see if Batman has indeed fallen to his death, then with a karate yell, Batman's legs come out from the darkness and clench the Goon's head between, which the Goon can't seem to pry apart after showing considerable strength beforehand, possibly showing his fatigue. With Batman's dead weight anchored to the Goon's neck, he is pulled forward into the heavy iron bell, which knocks him silly. Batman simply releases his grip and lets the Goon fall.

This was a serious and dangerous test for a weakened Batman. He showed his cunning and quick wits by disposing of the goon in an unconventional manner. Also it displays his toughness, enduring a beating in order to dispatch the Goon. I don't understand the hate, I enjoy this fight for what it is. It's also funny that the only brother in employment for the Joker is the one guy who can best Batman.

It was a good fight scene considering that bat suit was very limiting to movements. That roll on the ground Batman did was very fluid looking.

I thought that was the best shot/scene in the whole movie. He nailed that landing and came back up instantly.

Yes, even after the previous ordeals Batman has endured shortly preceding the fight, he is still able to maintain his composure and his physical abilities. The Batsuit has to be a limiting factor in this instance, as he isn't able to turn his head normally, the weight of the armor and the cape also adding to the disadvantages in a one-on-one fight against a much stronger opponent. However, Batman seems unhampered and is still fairly agile and quick-moving.

I loved that scene. You forgot to mention though how the big thug starts punching Batman in the stomach repeatedly. That guy was the one who came closest to killing Batman.

I wonder if Batman was feeling the pain from the blows due to the body armor of the Batsuit. At times it seems as if Batman is simply biding his time, waiting for the perfect moment to attack, which is what happened.
