Keaton >>>> Bale

This Batman (1989) is the best Batman film, IMNSHO. And, sacrilegious as some of the DCEU fans will find this statement, I think Nicholson's the best Joker, too.

I will say this about The Dark Knight trilogy, though....those films are in second place to me. Not any of the sequels to the '89 Batman. I loved the first one, hated the rest.

I love Christian Bale, but have to agree that Keaton was better.

Don’t agree with ranking the movie or Jack ahead of DKT or Heath though.

Batman (1989) created a world in which it just makes sense that characters like batman and the joker can exist. The Dark Knight Trilogy tried to create a batman, joker and scarecrow that could fit into the real world, which I felt strained the concept of batman since I was constantly wondering "how viable is that?". I prefer watching the more exaggerated "cartoonish" or "graphic novel" type movies like Batman (1989) since it doesn't make me question the physics or absurdity of it. It is for that reason alone that I argue Batman (1989) is the better movie, since it created world that was perfect for batman to exist in.

Very well said! That is exactly my opinion. Trying to make the joker a terrorist destroys the comic/ graphic novel character of the story. Batman (1989) is well balanced between the "realistic" approach of Nolan and the over the top version of the 60s TV show.
