I thought Basinger did really well in this movie. Her character acted like someone who really empathized and understood Wayne which was important in making her likable and important for the human side of the movie (for example, just compare Vale to the broad in spiderman who dates the same guy who beats up parker in school).
Basinger conveyed warm, caring qualities well, and they lit her like an angel in amongst all that dark imagery. She was a great looking actress with decent acting talent and brought a lot to this movie. Had they cast that fruitcake Sean Young instead of Basinger then this movie wouldn't have worked. Kim's Vale brought a lot of focus to Wayne's tortured crusader, and she was a nice presence overall.
Kate Capshaw also did well in TOD, too. I've never understood why so many movie fans always rag on her. She was meant to be manic compared to Indy and Short Round's more restrained characters. The dynamic worked fine, and she was a better actress than Alison Doody in Last Crusade.
And you can deal with me; Doug Masters!
