But looking back at those heady days, Peters also now claims to have had a tumultuous affair with Kim Basinger during the production of Batman in 1988, which apparently made Michael Keaton jealous.

“Kim had a husband who was abusive,” Peters claims. “And one day I grabbed him, and she connected with me because I protected her, and we became friends and ended up having a big affair. Michael Keaton had the eye for Kim Basinger. I remember he got mad at me when she and I hooked up. He felt rejected ‘cause he was the star. He’s Batman. Yeah. I was a hairdresser who could talk to women. We lived together on the set. She helped me write the third act.”

Kim Basinger's career has gone downhill. I don't get why Keaton would be jealous.

He's not jealous now. He was jealous back when they were making this piece of crap movie.

Hahaha! Seriously, look at Keaton's career today compared to Basinger's. He's having a well-deserved renaissance while she is making direct-to-video *beep*

Kim was the original choice for the role of Vicki Vale, but her agents wouldn’t let the producer meet with her unless he made her an offer. And then she “became busy.” So, Young only got the role after Basinger essentially rejected it.

The internet rumor that Michelle Pfeiffer was offered or in serious consideration for this part seems to be made up by a fan.

Kim also convinced the filmmakers to expand her role in the movie. Originally, Vale wasn’t in the third act.

Batman Returns plays like a single person’s vision, but not this movie. From a purely visual standpoint, yeah. But in terms of everything else, no. All those secretive, last-minute rewrites that came about because Basinger was banging Jon Peters are evidence enough.

Yeah. She cheated on her then-husband with Peters, and Burton has said Peters went behind his back and had the ending rewritten in order to give her more screen time.

So THAT’S why this movie is practically, “The Adventures of Vicky Vale and the Joker” more so than “Batman”
