Joe Pesci

Just curious...anybody know why Pesci was not credited in this movie? He seems to have a big part in it; I'm guessing he owed Hopper a favor or lost a bet or something.

check out www.wikipedia.org and look up 'Alan Smithee'
It lists different times when the pseudonym is used and it also mentions this movie
It seems Joe Pesci asked that his credit be removed

reply

I've been wondering that too, so thanks.

Why did Joe Pesci look so much older in "Backtrack" than he did in "Goodfellows" or "My Cousin Vinny", being that Backtrack was filmed before either of those films? Also, I had not seen Julie Adams since she appeared in the 1950s "Creature From the Black Lagoon" And what was with Bob Dylan, was that in fact Dylan? If it wasn't, the fellow sure looked like Dylan.

The final result of this vision makes one feel blue: the film was roughly cut, from a running time of 3 hrs. to 1 1/2 hrs. to reach an acceptable running time for theaters. That's the reason why Dennis Hopper didn't want to be in charge for this film anymore, so his name in the credits was replaced by the very busy "Alan Smithee". Joe Pesci didn't wangt to be more connected with this film anymore, so his name was scretched in the credits (Theatrical Cut + Director's Cut). Alex Cox' & Tod Davies's names, those guys wrote the screenplay, were scretched as well.
