Interesting there was a Trump inspired character also in the Gremlins 2 film which came out the same year.

And Zemeckis and Dante were both protégés of Spielberg.

Daniel Clamp turned out to be fairly sympathetic though. I believe an earlier screenplay had intended for him to be more of a villain.
