punch-drunk-love was an amazing pt anderson film with best actor phillip seymour hoffman. people don't get it because it is somewhat independant and has more meanings and metaphors than meets the eye. it takes a lot of reading in to and knowledge of film. it was an amazing film. just setting that straight. and adam did amazing in it too. i love it.

reply

I agree that this film was better than PDL. I hated this movie, it was awful, but so was PDL. PDL was a plain waste of time, moreso than this one. PDL was sad and pathetic, and only compared to films such as this one, 8 Crazy Nights, and Spanglish.

reply

go on and indulge us on why PDL is a "plain waste of time". So sorry it had sander playing a new kind of character that got him to step out of his world of the nice guy/ retard. PTA has more talent then 99% of hollywood and surely PDL proves it with it with stunning camera work, rich story, and amazing acting by sandler. comedy is more than just fart jokes man... comedy can be found deep in tightly wound flesh and PTA has us dig for it and when we find it... there aren’t words to describe.

At least you know what the hell your talking about, im sick of the sort of MR. Deeds ilk that somehow became a boxoffice grosser of 2002, PDL is a brilliant movie, i was stunned by the hidden depth of Adam Sandler as an actor in this movie and you know what everyone else i would much rather watch this then everytime he comes out with a movie like Click, lets raise our glasses to Adam Sandlers possible return to a more serious adult role.

reply

I know that simply having Sandler on board for a film means a certain amount of goofball comedy is expected. PDL requires the viewer to think a little, to get inside the characters, and to invest themselves a little. Maybe you have not done this, and that is why you didn't enjoy the film...

or maybe you're just stupid.

reply

I've never seen this, or PDL, but just to the bloke before who bagged Mr Deeds and Click, u r an absolute moron. Mr Deeds is maybe not a "brilliant film" but hell it makes me laugh, and Click...well i would go as far as to say that it is a brilliant film.

I wasn't making fun of Mr. Deeds i was just saying that it was an total unnessecary movie remake, which the Frank Capra version from the 30's is much better. Im glad it made you laugh but it is so unoriginal it makes me wince, I love all movies and i am very experinced with cinema and movies that have a little bit of smarts and wit tend to be more enjoyable aka The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou. Calling me a moron is very immature whether your 100 or 10, i've been a hardcore movie scholar for the past seven years and have around 500 DVD's so frankly i know more about the subject matter

reply

In my humble opinion, Punch Drunk Love has many redeeming qualities. And I'm not sure if everyone knows this but forced watching of the movie Going Overboard is used by many terrorist organizations as a torture technique......

reply

Mate your lucky i just used moron. Ok fine you might have more "Cinema" experience than me but i am a greater lover of Adam Sandler than you, and this is obvious becuase you don't respect the other comedies that he has made that are less serious, just like most stupid movie critics who don't ever give comedies a good rating.

reply

Hey im a great fan of adam Sandler it jsut annoys me that he plays the same character in every movie that hes in, Mr. Deeds is funny but a totally unnesicary movie.

reply

Other Sandler movies are good for a laugh, but Punch Drunk Love is different entirely. It's completely engrossing, original, bizarre and has amazing production values. The other major characters are played by very solid actors, but Sandler really surprised me with this one. Instead of his normal goofy nice guy, his character was so intriguing. He was very timid, with no social skills, depressed, prone to violent outbursts, yet still somehow, really likable as a character.

I can definitely see this movie not being for everyone, possibly least likely to appeal to fans of Sandler's usual brand of comedy, which is probably why it doesn't get the best reaction from viewers, but it a fantastic, deep, clever, obscure movie.

Punch Drunk Love shows us how awkward someone like Sandler's characters (and presumably his real-life persona) would be to interact with. His character in it is a mockery and a satirical parody of everything Sandler is known for and it's great for that reason. The cinematography is also excellent, and has a unique visual style to it. Besides its depth and meaning, It's also funnier than anything else the hack fraud piece of crap has ever been in. He's nothing more than a corporate sellout that disguises paid vacations with as minimal work as humanly possible as "movies". Open your eyes and watch Redlettermedia's Jack and Jill review to get better acquainted with how Fraudulent Sandler really is.

Saying that Going Overboard is better (presuming you're not joking, which I still sincerely hope you are) doesn't just mean that your opinions are stupid, but in actuality, dead wrong. When talking about Going Overboard, the subjectivity of opinions are thrown out the window. It IS the worst movie ever created, or at the very least, among them. Punch Drunk Love is pretty damn good, so the comparison is just more than a little disheartening.
