ruined the book

ok, i did like this film to a certain degree, but i do not think that it in any way can be compared to what i consider to be roald dahl's best book. it mised out far too much and i don't think that the imagination was good enough to do the book the kind of justice that it deserved. for me it ruined the book because it left so much out and wasn't what i had expected at all. kind of disappointing really!

I agree with a little of this, but it certainly did not ruin the book, this movie perfectly captures the magic of the book and the dreamworld. My only quibble is that there isn't NEARLY enough footage of BFG's feud with the other giants, those giants were spectacularly animated and while Bloodbottler and Fleshlumpeater get their scenes, there should have been more, like that scene in the book where they throw BFG around.

I guess they were wary of featuring dem scary giants too much in a kids film. BIG shame.

I'm kind of baffled you don't think this movie captured the magic. Please tell me what scenes the movie didn't have in the book, 'cause it seemed to me that the only scene the movie DIDN'T have is the scene where the BFG gets thrown around.

I should also point out that this is the ONLY movie adaptation that Roald Dahl liked.

Exactly. It's one of the most faithful adaptions of a Dahl book, if not the most faithful. There was little bits added in like when Sophie and the BFG spot the Fleshlumpeater about to eat a child when he's out on his dream delivery rounds. In the book that never happened. Sophie never even went on him to help spread dreams to sleeping kids.
