Pros and cons

I was lucky enough to see this movie in a theater shortly after it opened in the U.S. Our local movie reviewer wrote an interesting review, so I went to see it. I'm glad I went.

Cons: Really just two...the long, drawn out sex scene makes sex look boring, and the long, drawn out scene in the classroom/theater in which the instructor tells a group of women how inept women are. Too much of these scenes were filler.

Pros: I liked the actress, who played several roles. She reminded me of a young Terri Garr. The movie had a quirky sense of humor that I found attractive...it worked well with the at times surreal, at times normal scenes. The black and white photography is often lush, particularly during the phenomenal ending, during which we are transported a few feet above a canal at night as tiny voices whisper (in Hungarian) in the background.

that wasn't merely "the instructor" in the classroom. that was Otto Weininger giving a talk about his philosophies. the scene wasn't filler. it was an account of a significant, although misguided, 20th century figure, and illustrated the one sister's feminist worldview
