Good Story, Badly Acted
Seeing as there were no threads on this movie board I decided to christen it with a few comments.
I ordered the movie because I was about to make the trip to Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland, where the European Gypsies depicted in this movie were to end up. I also bought a few other titles, Hitler The Rise Of Evil and Anne Frank.
It's true to state that the sound dubbing was disjointed at times and the acting rather sub-standard but one can overlook that when one knows a good story - particularly when it depicts real life events.
Unintentionally, the title of 'And The Violins Stopped Playing' was perhaps badly chosen for people who have viewed this film with me at home on DVD have found cause to mock in light of the fact that the violins are a major feature of the movie and the Gypsy lifestyle at that time. In other words, people have remarked that they wished the title had been a little more reflective of the musical content! But that, I maintain, is the whole point of the title in that of course eventually the violins are silenced in the most brutal way.
