The Turks

Have there been any complaints from Turkish people about the way they are depicted in this film?

reply

What is there to complain? They really werent the most civilized bunch of people back in the late 18th century. So the movie is pretty accurate in this respect.

reply

Well, the Iranians complained about 300. I would be surprised if the Turks didn't feel the same way about this movie

reply

As things go, i think the Persians will complain,
if they haven' t done so already, about the Elamites
portrayed in " Sodom And Gomorrah "[1962].
Truth hurts.

reply

Actually, they were pretty civilized in the 18th century. They were just as civilized as any of the major European powers. But you're right, there's not too much to complain about. The Turks did try to conquer Europe via the Balkans, they did besiege Vienna in the late 17th century. And the Sultan and his court are portrayed satirically. Only the most rabid Turkish nationalist from some backwater on the Iraqi border could take offense at the movie.

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.

reply

Turks were like that in 18th c.
It's even an ironic depiction

hi, I'm Turkish and I've this movie with a bunch of my friends. We were just laughing at the depiction of Turks in this movie because it's soooo much exaggareted. It's impossible to claim that this picture is an accurate depiction, so we're not offended.

reply

Yeah it's meant to be an exaggeration of everything. The whole thing is one giant day dream told by an old man.

the ottoman empire (turks) were destructive back then, how can they complain when its them?
