Too much writing on the poster

No wonder the movie flopped.

And no pics at all

None of the posters are that good. But it would have been better to have a diver on it with just the title.

reply

It flopped because the ending was really dumb.

reply

Not to mention, the movie was missing 20-30 minutes of footage.

reply

well I guess its hard to pull off a good ending with "First contact with aliens" movies

Theyre all about the build up

I didn't really like the movie very much, but I did think "The Arrival" did a good job of that.

it's wild.
I went to see this in a huge theater in 89 and it was one of the best roller coasters of a movie I had ever seen at that time.
great action and challenges and conflict. Loved it! It's almost my favorite movie.

yeah, it's not yet another SEQUEL, and maybe that makes it better to me also. new people, new situation, totally unique and a fun ride

one of main reason why abyss fail (make only 70 million) is because it was marketed as action film like terminator and aliens, but it wasn't really.

that is why they put lots of writing on american poster because the studio was scare of film being flop (they knew it was much slower than terminator and aliens), so they basically advertise on poster with LOTS of writing telling american "please come see this film, it is just like aliens and terminators!!! cameron does it again!".

the european poster is very goods: https://www.originalposter.co.uk/fulldetails.asp?rid=16155

europeans have better attention span than american, so they dont need to advertise action as much to these audience.
