If made today, one neighbour would be black

Can’t have an all white cast.

Maybe Hanks wife would be black.

Edit - black detective at the end! Token black!

reply

Caps=yelling=aggressive.

reply

THAT OLD CHESTNUT...THE LAST GASP OF CREEPS WHO DONT HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO SAY...YOU KNOW FULL WELL THAT MY CAPS DO NOT EQUAL YELLING OR AGGRESSION...YOUVE BEEN HERE LONG ENOUGH.🍆

reply

I've been here a while too. Why do you type in all caps? My dad did the same because it was easier for him to read and he got sick of forgetting to capitalize, heh :)

reply

TWO REASONS...IM 6'6",AND STOCKY WITH A LOUD PERSONALITY...THEY SUIT ME...AND CONTINUITY...I STARTED ROCKING THE CAPS IN THE MSN MOVIE CHATROOM 25 YEARS AGO AND HAVENT LOWER CASED SINCE.

reply

Awesome! Makes perfect sense to me. Thank you for replying :)

Ahhhh, the chat rooms of 25 years ago. I miss them sometimes :) And that sound of connecting to the internet, haha. Good times.

reply

Why did you pick that user name? Just curious.

reply

It's a family account. Our then 8 year old son picked it when we started it :)

reply

I miss the gaming websites from the late 90s, like the Microsoft zone where you could play cards and games and chat and flirt with people at the same time. And the yahoo! games and message boards. The good old days....

reply

Yep! And joining groups where you would leave messages on boards and wait for replies. This was before chat rooms but I still miss it! XD

reply

Nguyen is a Vietnamese surname. How racist of you to automatically assume they are Chinese.

reply

LINDA NGUYEN WAS CHINESE...AS ARE HER FAMILY WHO STILL LIVE ACROSS THE STREET.

What's your point? That black people exist? That should be obvious. We live in a diverse world with lots of different types of people. No reason why movies can't reflect that and have diverse casts.

reply

If it's just tokenism I find it distracting.

If it's a genuinely great actor like Eddie Murphy I welcome it.

reply

I like Eddie Murphy but the last movie he was in I saw was Tower Heist. I've never watched the movie he did about the girls band that got him an Oscar nom, Norbit, or Meet Dave. He hasn't really done a new movie in a long time. My favorite black actors are Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Eddie Murphy, and Samuel L. Jackson.

reply

I’m not a fan of SLJ, he yells too much. Scary looking sometimes. Bug eyes too.

reply

Eddie Murphy genuinely great? LOL okay...

reply

In his hey-day, yes. Beverly Hills Cop and Coming To America are classics and his charisma was money in the bank for the studios.

reply

I've alway felt those films were great despite Murphy. 48 Hours, Trading Places, Beverly Hills Cop, and Coming to America are the only good films he's been in, and he's the least interesting/funny in each of them.

reply

Found the racist!

reply

He's racist because he doesn't like Eddie Murphy? Come on. Don't be so quick with accusations.

reply

Eddie was amazing in Beverly Hills Cop. I believe it had the highest test audience rating the studio had ever seen. He created a new genre, action comedy, and he nailed the comedy, the drama and the action. He was 24 as well.

reply

I am an Eddie Murphy fan as well. I absolutely loved him in those movies and Boomerang. He was awesome in the Dolemite movie as well. My favorite with him is Bowfinger. He and Steve Martin were awesome together! Plus, Eddie Murphy is incredibly sexy :)

reply

HAVE YOU INFORMED CLINT EASTWOOD AND BURT REYNOLDS OF THIS HIGHLY INCORRECT EDDIE MURPHY CREATED ACTION COMEDY THEORY?

reply

That’s a joke right? ‘YOU’ calling someone a racist with the things you’ve said on these boards?

reply

Found the racist!
says the guy who starts thread called
"Why do we have to have blacks in movies these days?"

reply

"says the guy who starts thread called
"Why do we have to have blacks in movies these days?""

Omg seriously? Ugh. Disgusting.

reply

I am in the minority loving I Spy. He was hillarious in that!

reply

It sounds like you're already easily distracted. Enough to prompt you to start a thread about a more diverse but hypothetical recasting.

reply

Don't you get it? I think you missed it.

This movie is just symbolism for when a black family moves into a all white neighborhood.

I think I read this theory as a op-ed in the NYT.

reply

Interesting theory. After watching back to the future II for probably the 30th time (maybe more) it dawned on me that they used a black family in his home in the alternative 1985 to symbolise a nightmarish, dystopian American dream. Black people taking over the neighbourhood.

reply

Just kidding...I think I remember it being a line from some comedian who's bit was to see racism in everything... another one was that the public buses windows were extra large to embarrass the riders.

reply

It's so annoying how they're forcing them into everything. I'd be embarrassed if I was black. It's becoming pathetic for real, and it's not going to change a damn thing.

reply

THAT IS FUCKING IMBECILIC.🙄

reply

I agree. If I was black I’d be like “there he is, the token black guy, thanks Hollywood!”

reply

THE NOTION THAT A BLACK ACTOR IS ONLY IN A FILM OR SHOW FOR PURE TOKENISM...THATS EXTREMELY RACIST...AS ARE MOST OF YOUR CHILDISH COMMENTS ON THESE TOPICS...PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE DESPITE HOW YOU AND A FEW OTHER SICKOS INTERPRET THEIR HUE.

reply

Every family in a TV commercial is black or mixed now. These companies are so afraid to be called racist, they force in mixed actors using their products. "See, we love black people, so don't come after us woke brigade."
It's so fake and forced
